Dear friends of Catholic schools, 

We are filled with excitement as we embark on a new academic year with a renewed sense of purpose. Our schools continue to buck the national trend of Catholic school enrollment, having experienced a 7.23% increase in enrollment since the 2020-21 year. This means we have the daily opportunity to provide 6,456 students and their families with a transformative encounter with our Lord. 

Dear friends of Catholic schools,

As David Faber announced last May, this school year will be his final one as superintendent of Catholic Schools in our diocese. I am grateful for the many ways in which he has positioned the diocese as a national leader in Catholic school education. His heart and passion for Catholic schools are unrivaled.

The priests of the Diocese of Grand Rapids attend a retreat together every fall. This fall convocation is an important time away from their parishes to build camaraderie, pray together, engage in continuing formation, and celebrate milestone anniversaries. Let us join in prayer as a Catholic community tomorrow, September 25, to lift up our shepherds.

U.S. celebration of the World Day for Grandparents, Elderly is Sept. 8

Pope Francis has chosen a line from Psalm 71 – “Do not cast me off in my old age” – as the theme for the 2024 celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Read his message on the Vatican website (multiple languages).
